Monday 3rd December! NFC East Showdown in DC!

Well what a weekend to behold! Things got underway in super fashion at Upton Park with the mighty hammers given Chelsea a good beating. I was travelling back from Coral TV at the time and I think a few people on the M23 thought I was a nutter when West Ham scored. At home especially we are picking up points against the big boys so we are making progress and a top ten finish is not out of the question now.

Got home just in time to see Bob’s Worth make a mockery of his mark of 160. He travelled really well and jumped nicely on the whole and looks sure to be a player in the main event at the festival. Well done to all that weighed in. Tidal Bay ran another absolute blinder in finishing 2nd. He’s a remarkable horse. Hold On Julio ran on well to pick up 5th but in truth his jumping just didn’t hold up. He hit 2 or 3 down the back pretty hard and losing 2/3 lengths a time in a race of that nature is unforgiving.

The weekends NFL action was nothing short of Carnage! Andrew Luck’s performance in Detroit was amazing, as was the finish in Chicago! Everyone just continues to beat everyone, it is the most wide open season I can ever remember. Denver are getting really hot under Manning but it is hard to really know how good they are as they have had a pretty soft schedule. The Broncos have only played 4 teams with winning records and have lost three of those games! Tonight’s game is a huge one with the NFC East so tight.

Looks like the weather is finally starting to settle down and we are going to get a good week of racing. Interesting stuff today but I have only managed to find a couple of semi interesting bets. One solid one and one from left field.

RAPID WATER (4.20 KEMP) is a really interesting runner. He was a little unlucky two starts back when not getting the best of runs. His latest effort can be forgiven as he doesn’t get the trip. Back in distance today he is on a very nice mark and gets in today off bottom weight. He was running off marks in the 80’s a couple of years ago and gets in here off 55! The 8/1 around this morning is lovely!

BALTIC PRINCE (4.30 WOLV) is lightly raced and is definitely over priced for his return to Wolverhampton and more importantly 7f today. Still a maiden but is potentially on a fair mark given what we have seen so far around here and there is no way he is a 33/1 chance and there is every chance he could be in the mix up!

New York Giants @ Washington Redskins

Just enormous play off implications going into this contest tonight for MNF. The Giants lead the NFC East on 7-5 and the Skins are 5-6. So if Washington win tonight it will blow the division wide open with 4 weeks to go. Dallas won last night to go to 6-6 too so it is literally tighter than Wonga at the bar. Tonight’s game is a real head scratcher. The game in New York was tight with the Redskins going ahead in the final minute only to give up a big play to Victor Cruz with seconds remaining to give the victory to NY. Giants are slight favourites tonight and that is probably just about right.

The worry for Washington is that their defence is just not good enough although they have played much tougher the last two weeks. The Giants are hot and cold. In New York they really struggled to cope with RG3 and I’m expecting much the same tonight and I think that is where the bet may lie…

Ladbrokes are going RG3 rushing yards at OVER 48.5! Yes please I’ll have the 10/11 as he is likely to bust that in one or two plays…

Should be a quality game and a guaranteed late night! Should also say a big happy 30th to Dicko today. He’s at the HWPA awards and is sure to travel strongly through the day, he might weaken late on and be given a break on the back of it though.

Be lucky today!

Thursday 28th November

Morning peeps. A pretty solid day all round yesterday. Was pleased Tinshu finally got his head in front, he has been on the list since an unlucky run at Ascot earlier in the year and it was just a case of finding the right race. Langham Lilly just about managed to land the maximum despite the fact that the race wasn’t run to suit at all. On the evidence of that she may well want 14f+ in future.

The start of the winter festival at Newbury today brings in some decent jumps action. It will be interesting in the first race to see how AAIM TO PROSPER gets on in his first start over hurdles. The dual Cesarewitch winner was highly rated on the flat and if he takes to hurdling, could be a very interesting recruit. I have to say that strictly on what we have seen from the others I think he will be very hard to beat if he jumps well.

The novices handicap hurdle at 1.30 is a really interesting race and might be one to follow for future bets. I backed OTTO THE GREAT at Ascot last time when getting a 9l beating from IVORS KING. He gets an 11lb pull in the weights today which certainly brings them close together but there is no saying how much Ivors King had in hand that day. There are plenty of alternatives in a competitive heat, and it’s a watching brief for me.

My first bet of the day goes in the 12.55 in the form of KRUZHLININ. He made a real impression on me when winning last time despite jumping badly to the left at Carlisle. He won with plenty in hand that day and looks useful. Going left-handed round here today can only bring out a bit more and I think he will win again.

My best bet of the day today however will require some patience as it is in the last race of the day (7.35 Kempton) in the form of KAYLEE. She firmly went into the notebook two starts back when a little unlucky. I backed her last time when she was 2nd at a big price. Given a more patient ride she may well have won and I think she will be cherry ripe for tonight in what is a pretty weak race. Ned Curtis takes over in the saddle as it’s an apprentice handicap so if she wins tonight she can run again without a penalty. StanJames have just gone 3/1 and that will do me lovely jubbly.

Good to see all three ante-post bets for the Hennessy still stand. The closer we get to the race the more confident I am about Hold On Julio who is still freely available at 8/1 today.

I’m on the late show on Coral TV today so a lazy afternoon is in store!

Be lucky today!

Saturday 13th Oct – Future Champions Day!

So I’ve finally got the ball rolling. The editor of the Racingpost (Bruce Millington) tweeted me last night. What he doesn’t know is he was tweeting his future champion tipster. It seems I need to start being a big more controversial in my column. So I might start throwing the odd swear word into it. Ok, I’ll start by saying England were shit last night. What on earth were all those¬† morons doing last night clogging up my Twitter feed with England will score ten goals? We know we are average, lets stop being silly.

Well what a feast of racing we have today. The future champions take centre stage at Newmarket and some potential jumping superstars will make an appearance at Chepstow as the jumping season gets underway.

As always with a big Saturday you have to stick your neck out as these are days that you can get tucked in and come out potless, so the task for the day has been to find plenty of value. Really looking forward to seeing Dawn Approach in the Dewhurst who looks a real class act, but possibly more so I can’t wait to see Fingal Bay going over fences. He potentially could be top drawer now going over the bigger obstacles.

BRAE HILL – 3.45 YORK 1 PT EACH WAY @ 25/1.

I feel compelled to give Brae Hill one more chance after last week. Most of you will know that I was very keen on him at Ascot last week but he missed the break and ran no sort of race at all. I am always prepared to forgive a horse a bad run at Ascot. He has been dropped a pound as a result and as he has conditions to suit once again he becomes of real interest at a massive price. The yard have had a good week and I think he’s a player.

A real good renewal of the fiendishly difficult handicap over two and a quarter miles. There are many possibilities and there has been a morning gamble on the Pricewise selection Montaser. Personally I like to give the three-year olds a bit of a swerve in this race as they have a poor record. Although I respect the connections I feel all his best efforts have been on better ground so I’m happy to let him go.

I like the jumping angle here. National hunt horses have a very good record (50% last 16 years) and therefore I think there are a couple that are over priced. COUNTRYWIDE FLAME would be my selection for the race. He has a good draw in 7 for a horse that likes to press the pace, John Quinn left it clear he had left plenty to work with prior to the victory at Chester. Only raised 4lbs for that win, the second has come out and run well since. If he transfers his hurdles form here today he will be very touch to beat. Along similar lines with 5/6 places being paid in places I think that STORMY WEATHER and SENTRY DUTY are both massive prices for those that like a biggy.

A real eyecatcher last time that went firmly into the notebook. Ran a solid third off 51 over this course and distance a week ago having possibly not had the clearest of runs. He clearly has ability on the back of that and I think he represents real value tonight. Paul Green’s colt has been raised a pound for that effort last week but also has the assistance tonight of the excellent Darren Egan who claims five which means he gets in here off such a light weight. This is a slightly better grade and there are one or two progressive ones but that is factored into the price and I think he is absolutely the bet of the day!

A real busy few days, I’m on Coral TV this afternoon then shooting straight back to the coast this evening in time to see Baltic Prince win!

Hope you have a winning day today. Might check back later if anything else crops up!

Be lucky!
