Thurs Oct 18th – England Woes!

Well England were pretty poor yesterday. I don’t really know what all the fuss is about every time we play. We all know we are average, but we will probably win a poor group and in hindsight a draw there was probably ok.

Art Scholar ran an absolute blinder again and he will no doubt be raised again by the handicapper after finishing a clear second to what looks a potential listed/group performer. Shame we didn’t lump on the 50’s last week! Bugger, or as most of my mates have said, dick.

Mitie Mouse went off too fast but is of interest in the future. He was very well backed indeed though so it seems everyone has seen what I have.

Today is a really busy day. Just arrived at Coral TV towers for three days! Racing shift today and for Champions day on Saturday and a late one tomorrow. Lots of list horses running today too. With regards the racing from now I will just give a heads up on what I like and think is worth backing, you all have your own staking plans.

My bet of the day comes at Kempton in the 5.30 in the form of Pastoral Jet. He won really nicely off a mark of 50 two starts back and would have gone very close to winning off 4lbs higher last time but for a troubled passage. That latter effort was in a better race than the previous win and at the weights today he is of major interest. Best priced 11/4, the wide draw is no problem as he is an out-and-out hold up horse. If Ryan Powell gets the gaps he should win.

I really like Mushaakis in the 6.00 at Kempton. He scrambled home over 7f on handicap debut last time and the handicapper could only raise him 4lbs for that. He wants at least a mile and should relish the step up in trip and continue his progression.

Geeaitch 4.00 Wolv is also an interesting runner. Was behind the incredibly well handicapped Dana’s Present last time and was a clear second. A couple of others in behind have gone on to win since and it looks fair form for the grade. He came off the bridle early that day but the extra distance could help and he is starting to look ahead of his mark. The Johnston runner has been very well backed on handicap debut which tempers enthusiasm. Maybe back with a saver on Glen Ellyn.

I think NORDIC QUEST (8.30 Kemp) is a better horse on the all-weather and looks a play tonight at around 4/1. In the same race CHERRY STREET remains on the hot list. We probably need to see a bit more before he can be backed after such a poor run back from a break last time but his maiden for is solid (beat Sir Graham Wade). Keep an eye out for money. Maybe have a couple of quid on at astronomical prices win and place on Betfair to cover our bottoms from another Art Scholar.

My jumps season preview is a work in progress, I am going to try my best to get it out before the weekend.

Be lucky today.
