Thursday 4th October – Arizona Cardinals @ St Louis Rams!

The phrase hitting the crossbar gets bantered around a lot in racing. Well I feel like I’m smashing my head against it at the moment. The longer the day went on yesterday the more I was convinced that I had managed to beat the market with Art Scholar at 22/1. I rated him about an 8/1 chance. In fairness under the circumstances he ran an absolute blinder. He has to be held up and to be fair George Baker gave him a good ride. I text GA as they left the stalls and said all we don’t want is Frankie popping out in front and slowing them down. Needless to say I knew we’d done our money after 200 yards. He remains of immediate interest, but will need a pace to run at and hopefully didn’t catch too many eyes in running.

I don’t touch on Greyhound Racing very often as its a social thing for me rather than serious but something caught my eye again on Tuesday. At SUNDERLAND trap one opened up in a bags race at 2/1. In the next two minutes it went 5/2, 3/1, 4/1, 5/1,6/1, and then 8’s……..now you know what happened. Trap one was tailed off last. Never competitive. Someone at Sunderland is putting punters away and something needs to be done about it. FACT.

Man City were poor last night. For large periods of the game they were outplayed and they really rely so heavily on Joe Hart, who for me at the moment is the best keeper in the world.

Arizona Cardinals @ St Louis Rams

Really looking forward to tonight’s NFL action, in particular seeing the Cardinals as everyone is raving about their defence. I know what your thinking, we all want to see bomb after bomb and a high scoring game, but defensive battles can be just as entertaining. The Cardinals are 4-0 but are still widely available at 33/1 and bigger in places. Why you ask? Well the NFL has changed is the answer. Up until about 3/4 years ago NFL experts would have told you that defence wins championships and although that is still true to a certain extent it doesn’t carry the importance it did years ago.

Kevin Kolb is the new man under centre for the Cardinals and he has been efficient in leading his limited offence to some good results so far and I expect much of the same again tonight in a fairly low scoring game. Sam Bradford is very under rated at St Louis as he has been trying to lead a poor side. They are improving rapidly under Jeff Fisher but I expect the Card’s to come out on top tonight and the 10/11 at Laddies is a gift.

Arizona Cardinals on the money line 3 pts @ 10/11

Under 39.5 pts, 1pt @ 10/11 with Bet365

Legal Eagle – 6.10 Wolverhampton – 1 pt each way @ 20/1 generally

Another one today at a big price that I just feel represents some value. Has performed with credit off marks in the high 70’s in recent times but has fallen down the weights to just 59 tonight. Ran better than the bare form suggests back from a break last time and all his very best form is at six furlongs which he gets today. Stall eleven is the only downside I can really see but that is factored into the price. Really well handicapped on his old from and if he doesn’t bounce, could run a big race at a big price.

Sutton Sid 7.40 Wolverhampton – 2pts win @ 9/1 with Betfair.

An interesting runner for George Baker who ran better than the form book suggests last time. Wasn’t really given a chance to get into the race. That was a fair handicap for the grade and I think he represents some value tonight with the drop into selling company for the first time. Solid play.

Last morning of the week on Coral TV today before the birthday festivities kick in…if you see me over the next few days I’ll apologise now!
Be lucky!
